Holidays & Festivals

One of the core services of the congregation is serving as a place to pray, to learn, and to celebrate together on Jewish Holidays. From Purim to Passover, the High Holy Days to Hanukkah, KBI offers outstanding services and programs for all of the year’s festivals.

Night 1 – Thursday, December 10
Drive-in Hanukkah Candle-lighting
7 PM – KBI Parking Lot
Join the Clergy from KBI in the Shul parking lot and, tune into your car radio (102.0 FM) for an old school drive-in experience as we light the first night’s candle.

Night 2 – Friday, December 11
Kabbalat Shabbat for Hanukkah
5:30 PM – Live Stream
Join Cantor Green live from the bimah (on the livestream, or in-person by registering through the office) for a Chanukiah lighting on the second night of Hanukkah, and our familiar sing-along Kabbalat Shabbat service.

Night 3 – Saturday, December 12
Hanukkah Hop in Centrepointe
6-8 PM – Centrepointe
Follow our route through Centrepointe to view festive homes decorated for Hanukkah. Treats included!

Night 4 – Sunday, December 13
Zoom Hanukkah Party
5 PM – Zoom
A fun interactive family-friendly program with songs, cookie decorating, a unique and exciting craft, dancing, and lots of light. Hanukkah cookie cutters, dough, and a craft kit will be provided upon registration.

Night 5 – Monday, December 14
“It’s a Chanukah Concert…Virtually!”
7 PM – YouTube Premiere
Cantor Green, Kol Beit Yisrael adult and youth choirs & Friends present a fun Hanukkah concert for all ages, online as a “Premiere” on YouTube. Watch and sing along LIVE, and chat with the concert participants or add your Hanukkah wishes in the comments in real-time. Subscribe to KBI’s YouTube channel for a notification/reminder, and tune in 10 minutes early for schmoozing! (the page will have a YouTube link at the top).

Night 6 – Tuesday, December 15
JCC Community Candle-lighting with Rabbi Zuker
5:45 PM – Sign-up through this special link is required
Join Rabbi Zuker, the SJCC, and the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, for a virtual candle lighting. After we light together, you can sing along with local Jewish students who will sing some of our favorite Hanukkah songs.

Night 7 – Wednesday, December 16
Judaism’s Great Debates
7:30 PM – Zoom
We have gathered lawyers from our community to discuss the “Great Debates of Jewish History” – Latkes vs. Hamentashen, Apple Sauce vs. Sour Cream, and more!

Night 8 – Thursday, December 17
Hanukkah Israelit: Light up the World
7 PM –  Separate Registration Required
Join us for a joyous celebration hosted by Israeli Cellist Elad Kabilio. Yiddish Theatre Star Daniella Rabbani, Israeli Opera singer Inbar Goldmann, and 12th Night Klezmer will revel in international songs and stories inspired by the Festival of Lights; from Klezmer and Ladino to Israeli song and jazz!
