Goal Setting

Lesson Time

1. In your first homework session, Listen to the assigned audio files (or assigned part thereof) at least 15 times in a row. Let it sink in! Best practice is to listen a couple more times in a second sitting before trying to sing along.

2. Sing along with the audio files many times until it is identical, smooth and confident. If there are glitches, use the slider to “rewind” and review a word or two at a time until identical. You’ll know you’re ready for step 3 when the audio recording feels too slow or is ‘holding you back’.

3. Sing the whole assignment without the audio file (as you will in your next lesson).

Use this approach every week, and knock my socks off with how well you know it!

AND, 4. every week, you MUST review at least once, everything learned to date, and FIX any glitches.

Listen to the Torah Trope Sheet MP3 (below) at least 10-15 times, and after the 5th time, start following the audio file while looking at the symbols themselves rather than the hebrew names of the symbols. This will help during actual Torah reading prep.

IF you find that you blast through the Torah blessings learning, you can use the homework technique above to actually complete a learning of the Trope Sheet. That is: Listen / Sing along / Sing without the audio file.

Learn first 3 Blessings of Havdallah (Friedman – Lai Lai Lai…)

Practice first 2 words of Aliya 3 – “Vayash-keim Ya’akov“; and fix the trope of Vayikra at the start of v19. You can either relate it to v’ulam in the next verse, or go back to the audio file and listen a bunch of times to the transition from v18 to v19.

Review Aliya 3, continuing to fine tune from v19.

Practice aliya 3, 28:18 into 28:19, just the four words: vayitzok shemen al roshah, vayikra so that you can fine tune the trope of vayikra. Listen 10 times to JUST those words, sing along 10 times, then sing at least 5 times on your own.

Make sure 2nd to last line, first word is yih-yeh
